Carlos Valdes

Carlos_Valdes2Amsterdam clubbing these days wouldn’t be the same without the ongoing efforts of dj/ producer/ promoter/ labelowner Carlos Valdes. Not only has he enriched the city’s nightlife with a series of refreshing initiatives, breaking new artists from abroad and pushing a young generation of local talent. Carlos is also one of the first ever contestants in our TWSTd DJ contest and managed to become one of Holland’s most respected and loved underground dj’s. Carlos Valdes has been at the heart of the Amsterdam scene for years, as a DJ, label boss and promoter. His DJ sets mix up everything from hypnotic techno to kicking house and, rather than playing all the big hits, he selects the records that make most sense at the time. He is well known for his classy and considered taste. This lead to him becoming one of the Techno curators for 22tracks.

Carlos was one of the residents at Amsterdams legendary club, TrouwAmsterdam and is also a resident for LET, one of Amsterdams leading party organizations. Over the years he has played esteemed clubs like Panoramabar, Robert Johnson and Concrete, and festivals such as Awakenings and Nachtdigital. He was invited at label nights such as Cadenza and Dekmantel and he performed at Circo Loco. He went outside of Europe to perform at the infamous D-Edge, in Sao Paulo in Brasil and a tour in Chile.

Back in 2000 he started Studio Soulrock, a much loved organization and label. It put on countless parties and hosted myriad festivals stages in the years since. He is the man behind the Vreemd club nights, which have been the most vibrant and popular way to party on a Thursday night in Amsterdam for years and he keeps on coming up with exciting new concepts as …Is Burning, the gay night that started at Trouw, run by Carlos and friend Sandrien. Carlos has been responsible for unearthing and bringing on many young talents on his local scene with the parties he organizes and the music he released on his label. To date the label has released fine EPs from the likes of Bootleg Bitches, San Proper & Steven de Peven, Young Marco and Tom Trago & Awanto 3, with remixes coming from classy operators such as Genius of Time and Axel Boman.
